Glasses Lenses and Coatings

Polycarbonate lenses
At Ozoptical.com, all standard lenses are made of lightweight CR39-resin with a standard lens index of 1.499, coming with a completely scratch resistant coating. Polycarbonate lenses are the lightest material available (optional), and due to its high impact-resistance and durability, it also happens to be an integral material used in making bullet-proof “glass”.
Single vision lenses
Single vision lenses have one fixed focus point or correction over the entire lens area. They can be used for either near, intermediate or distance vision. For instance, glasses for driving or reading are single vision. OZoptical.com standard free lens is single vision.

Bifocal lenses
A bifocal lens is divided into two sections by a horizontal line, with the upper section of the lens usually used for distance vision, and the lower section used for near vision. These two different focuses in the one lens allow people with myopic or hyperopic conditions to use a single pair of glasses for both long distance and up-close vision.

Progressive lenses
Also know as varifocals, this type serves the same purpose as bifocals but without the obvious horizontal line segmenting the lenses. It provides a smooth transition between distance and near vision, as well as the capability for viewing intermediate ranges.

Scratch-resistant coating
While no lenses are scratch-proof, one that’s treated with a special hard coating increases its resistance to scratching. All of our glasses lenses come with an anti-scratch coating.

Tinted coating
Tinted lenses remain a constant shade at all times and do not gradually change shade in response to light conditions the way photochromic lenses do. At OZoptical.com tints are available in brown, grey and green, in 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% strengths. While lighter tints primarily enhance the wearer’s looks for cosmetic purposes, darker tints allow the wearer to use the lenses as prescription sunglasses.

Anti-reflective coating
This type of coating increases light transmission, reducing reflections and improving the wearer’s image clarity as well as the overall cosmetic appearance by making the eye more visible through the lens. With anti-reflective coating eyeglasses wearers will not have that unsightly lens reflection when they get their photo taken, and those who drive at night will benefit from reduced headlight glare from oncoming cars, brightly lit signs or street lights.

Ultraviolet protection coating
Ultraviolet rays from the sun harm not only our skin, but can also damage our eyes increasing the likelihood of cataracts, retinal damage and other problems. A UV treatment is quick and simple to apply to most plastic lenses and doesn’t change their outward appearance.
